Tier 2 - Visas for Skilled Workers with a Job Offer
Tier 2 is for skilled workers who have a job offer from a UK company. UK companies wanting to hire overseas workers under Tier 2 must possess a sponsorship license.
Under this points based system, most of the points are earned for the sponsorship license. If the license is for a job on a list of jobs considered in shortage in the UK, then the sponsorship license score more points.
Tier 2 covers almost all occupations as long as the employer can get a sponsorship license. However, there are special Tier 2 rules for ministers of religion and highly professional sports people.
